About Ann

Ann Turnbull is a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist with over 20 years of experience working with children. She is passionate about nurturing learning, building confidence and fostering independence, and has worked with children from diverse backgrounds and with a wide range of abilities and developmental profiles across school settings and private speech pathology practice.

Her approach is warm, strengths-based and individualised, with a strong focus on building trusting relationships with children and their families. She uses play-based therapy to make intervention purposeful, engaging and meaningful, while tailoring support to each child's unique needs.

Ann has a particular passion for supporting neurodivergent children and children with diverse learning and communication needs, creating an environment where every child feels understood, accepted and empowered. Her interest in this area extends to research: she co-authored a paper exploring speech pathologists' knowledge and practice surrounding the early signs of autism, published in the International Journal of Speech-Language Pathology alongside Dr. Rebecca Sutherland in 2025.

Ann has a special interest in orofacial myology and has undertaken specialised training with the Australian Academy of Orofacial Myology, extending her clinical experience in this area. Her work considers how the function and coordination of the tongue, lips, jaw and facial muscles can influence speech, oral habits, swallowing and oral posture. She works collaboratively with children, families and other health professionals to identify and address these difficulties as part of a holistic approach to supporting each child's communication, development and overall wellbeing.
