Myofunctional Therapy for Children

Myofunctional therapy is exercise-based therapy for the muscles of the mouth and face. Through short daily exercises, it retrains resting tongue posture, lip seal, nasal breathing and swallowing patterns: the underlying habits that an appliance alone can't reach.

How It Works in Our Program

Every child enrolled in the program receives self-guided myofunctional exercises: short, friendly videos your child follows for a few minutes a day, tracked with a child-friendly checklist in the parent portal. Families on the Core + Myo plan add live one-to-one sessions with our myology educators. Extra live sessions can be added to any plan at $150 per session, whenever your family would find them helpful.

An honest word about the evidence. Myofunctional therapy is used by speech pathologists, dentists and other clinicians as part of a broader approach. The evidence base is still developing, and children respond differently, which is why, in our program, it's one supportive layer among several, never a stand-alone cure.

A Few Minutes a Day

The exercises are short and playful: a few minutes a day is all it takes. Consistency matters far more than intensity.

Guided by Video

Every exercise is demonstrated in a short, friendly clip, so your child can see exactly what to do before giving it a go themselves. The video stays in your app so you can rewatch anytime.

Live Sessions on the Core + Myo Plan

Families on the Core + Myo plan add live one-to-one video sessions with one of our myology educators.

Tracked Together

Weekly check-ins in the parent portal show how the habit is building, so you can see the routine take shape week by week.

Who It Tends to Suit

Every child in the program: the exercises are a core layer of treatment, not an optional extra

Children working on mouth-breathing and tongue-posture habits, where the exercises are especially helpful

Younger children, who do the exercises with a parent alongside (it becomes a small shared ritual)

How the exercises fit into your child's plan is Dr. Phillip Stein and Robynann Williams's decision, made after reviewing the photos and examining your child in person. Children respond differently and no specific result can be promised.

What to Expect

It feels like a game more than a treatment. The exercises are short and playful by design: most children treat them as a challenge rather than a chore, and the portal checklist gives them something to tick off each day.

Parents of younger kids join in. For younger children, the exercises work best with a parent alongside: a few shared minutes that become part of the daily rhythm rather than another thing on the to-do list.

The appliance and the exercises reinforce each other. The exercises work on the habits underneath while the appliance supports them at night. Each layer of the program is designed to back the other up.
